Disney Takes on a New Visual Revolution! Tron: Ares Takes Over Virtual Shibuya

HIKKY Inc. has created a special virtual space, [Tron : Ares in VR Shibuya], to celebrate the upcoming theatrical release of Disney’s latest film, Tron: Ares, on October 10, 2025. The space will be open to the public for a limited time, from Friday, September 19, through Friday, October 31.

HIKKY, the company behind Virtual Market, one of the world’s largest metaverse events and a four-time Guinness World Records™ title holder, has authentically recreated the world of Tron : Ares, where “AI takes over the real world from the digital world.” Visitors can also take part in the Disc Battle, one of the most iconic elements of the Tron series, with friends.

The legendary film Tron was the first feature-length movie to make full-scale use of CGI, captivating audiences worldwide with its groundbreaking technology and visuals, and forever changing visual entertainment history. The film went on to inspire some of the world’s most renowned directors, including James Cameron, George Lucas, Peter Jackson, Tim Burton, and the Wachowskis. John Lasseter, co-founder of Pixar, who began exploring the potential of CGI animation after Tron, famously remarked, “Without Tron, there would be no Toy Story.” The film’s influence has shaped countless works that followed.

The latest installment, Tron: Ares, a “highly advanced AI program” from the digital world descends into reality. The film depicts AI soldiers spinning out of control as they begin to take over the real world. In [Tron: Ares in VR Shibuya], this story comes to life as the streets of Shibuya are fully recreated, illuminated by streaks of red light symbolizing the city falling under AI domination. Visitors can also explore immersive elements from the film, including the iconic Lightcycles, motorcycle-like vehicles that leave trails of light in their wake.
